Pro Nikon

Do you think the Nikon 17-55 2.8 will hold it's value assuming Nikon will not make more pro DX bodies?
I want to buy this lens but do you think it will hold a significant part of it's value in the future considering Nikon may only make pro FX bodies in the future?
Added to that, do you think Nikon will continue to make a pro DX body?
Considering that Nikon has invested so much into DX technology, I don't think it's going away anytime soon. Yes, producing FX matrices will become cheaper over time, judging from the current trends, but I trust Nikon is aware of that too, so given that they put out a full line up of DX bodies and an army of DX lenses, it is just not in Nikon's style to drop that line and leave it's valued customers, who invested in DX lenses with no bodies to choose from...
I don't have a crystal ball here, but my educated guess is, that Nikon will greatly expand it's FX line of bodies in years to come (probably not in the next year or two, but eventually), however they will keep producing new and improved, and cheaper (no matter how cheap it will be to make FX sensor, DX would be cheaper still) DX bodies to get new users to sign up to dSLR world. So maybe one day we'll see a $250 SLR body that would be a successor of current D40... After all just 5-10 years ago cheapest dSLR bodies were in thousands of dollars... So the trend is there. Then perhaps for $1000 you'd be able to get something similar to current D300, and for $2000 you will be able to buy an equivalent of what D3 is right now. Then there will still be $4000-5000 bodies that will use the latest and greatest technology...
So I wouldn't worry about 17-55 f/2.8. It is a great fast lens, that will probably not appeal to basic shooter, who's just learning, but will definitely find it's market among the more advanced users, who can really appreciate f/2.8 and will be willing to pay for it.
